Society for Scale Modellers… The 4th Decade

A few months ahead of the statutory two year tenure, the members of the Society for Scale Modellers (SSM) have elected their biennial Committee to see their Society through to 2014.  Born in January 1981, this local chapter of the International Plastic Modellers’ Society (IPMS) is the leading association of modellers on the Maltese islands.

Aldo Chetcuti will do another term as President aided yet again by Ivan Cocker as Vice President in charge of international liaison. The Society’s long serving Secretary, Joseph Farrugia switches roles with Tancred Cassar who is now Secretary and assists him in his new post.  Tancred also continues to manage the society’s website and forum, assisted by newcomer Wayne Zammit who will also be responsible for the Society’s Public Relations. Oliver Mifsud retains his supervision of the club premises and inventory with the new Treasurer Alex Schembri who takes over management of the society’s funds from Colonel Harold Stivala. Paul Salamone, a veteran events organiser now assumes responsibility for the Society’s various activities and exhibitions.

The members of SSM have in past years regaled Maltese audiences with innumerable model exhibitions and have competed very successfully in International Competitions and Shows.  The Society will continue with its activities to promote scale modelling in Malta and will strive to create yet more original events for the benefit and enjoyment of the local public.

As always, the Society invites anyone interested in Scale Modelling to meet the members on Wednesday evenings after 7.00 at its premises at ‘SSM House’ Sulphur Lane, Blata l-Bajda.
