IPMS MALTA - the Society for Scale Modellers

‘Merhba’ [welcome] to the Maltese modellers community the Society for Scale Modellers (SSM), an affiliated member of the World Model Soldier Federation and also part of the worldwide community of IPMS.

The club has been set up since 1981 and all major scale modelling subjects are covered, as one can see in the site’s gallery. SSM meetings are held every Wednesday from 18.30hrs onwards at our premises in Hamrun. The society endeavours to hold annually a scale model expo, History in Scale. This event has slowly grown in popularity with the Maltese general public and is nowadays being held at the Valletta Waterfront.

Now and again members from SSM take part in various international competitions the IPMS Nationals (UK), Euromilitaire (UK), World Expo (Glasgow, Roma, Boston), IPMS Athens (Greece), Herzog von Bayern (Germany), Kulembacht (Germany), MFCA (USA), Atlanta (USA), Le Petit Soldat (Italy), CSMS (Sicily) ... and have always came back home with flying colours..

If you like to build models, interested in trying for the first time or a modeller visiting our island, do not hesitate to get in contact to meet and join the members of SSM IPMS Malta.

SSM is 25 years old [1981 - 2006]

The opening day of History in Scale 06 started with a special reception held for all the members and families as part of the  celebration of the 25^th Anniversary of the Society for Scale Modellers.

After a speech by Louis Carabott which led to the opening of this year’s HIS06 Model Expo and refreshments, the founding members Anthony Bajada, Aldo Chetcuti and Romeo Dimech were presented with the Hononary Membership Certificate by the Secretary Joseph Farrugia.

Now and again members from the Society take
part in various competitions abroad namely,
The IPMS Nationals in UK, Euromilitaire and
 World Expo.If you are holidaying in Malta please
 do not hesitate to contact us to meet the members

  Marco Portelli 1961-2006

      It causes much sadness and regrets to announce the death of Marco Portelli . He was one of the genuine nice guys who was always ready to help others. His abiding passion for figurines especially with Maltese connections earned him great respect from fellow modellers.Marco was an active member and a good mate and above all a devoted and caring family man.  
       Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family,to Victoria his wife and their children Luana and Dario.
    As with many others we mourn his passing
